Level 3 Extended Diploma Creavtive Media Production - Unit 26 Film Studies - Assignment One:Film Analysis

HI, I'M SHIKIEL ALEXANDER AND TODAY I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT “JACKASS 3D,
THE MOVIE.” JACKASS IS BASICALLY A MOVIE WHERE A GROUP OF PEOPLE PLAY PRANKS ON EACH OTHER. IT USED TO BE A TV SHOW ON MTV AND VIVA BUT AFTER THE SUCCESS OF THE TELEVISION PROGRAM, THEY TURNED IT INTO A MOVIE AND PERFORMED BIGGER, SCARIER AND MORE DARING PRANKS ON EACH OTHER.

MISE-EN-SCENE

TO BE SUCCESSFUL JACKASS HAVE TO USE A LOT OF PROPS, THESE PROPS INCLUDE; HELMETS- HELMETS ARE PROBABLY THE MOST COMMON PROP USED IN JACKASS, DUE TO ALL THE CRAZY THE STUNTS THEY WILL NEED MULTIPLE HELMETS TO PROTECT FORM ANY HEAD INJURIES. THE NEXT PROP THAT WOULD BE USED IS BOXING GLOVES. BOXING GLOVES ARE MAINLY USED BY BAM MARGERA IN HIS OWN PERSONAL PRANK CALLED “ROCKY.” THIS IS WHEN BAM THROWS WATER OVER UNEXPECTING VICTIMS AND THEN PROCEEDS TO PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE. ANOTHER POPULAR BUT WEIRD PROP IS A BULL. BULLS ARE QUITE POPULAR IN JACKASS BECAUSE OF ALL THE CRAZY PRANKS THEY DO.

JACKASS DO NOT DO A LOT OF EDITING BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS REAL. THE ONLY EDITING THE DO IS WHEN THEY SLOW DOWN THE CAMERA SHOTS. THEY SLOW LOTS OF THE SHOTS SO YOU CAN SEE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS. THREE EXAMPLES OF THIS IS SOMETHING IVE ALREADY MENTIONED, BAM MARGERA’S ‘ROCKY, ANOTHER IS WHEN DAVE ENGLAND GETS FLY-KICKED TO THE HEAD/ SHOULDERS BY BAM MARGERA AND THEY SLOW DOWN THE CAMERA SHOT TO SHOW THE IMPACT IT HAS TO DAVE'S FACE/ SHOULDERS.

I THINK THE SLOW MOTION IS AVERY GOOD EDIT FOR THIS TYPE OF MOVIE BECAUSE IT SHOWS AND PROVES THAT ALL THERE PRANKS ARE 100% LEGIT AND NOT FAKED.

IN JACKASS THEY USE A LOT OF COSTUMES AND MAKE UP FOR DIFFERENT SKETCHES. THE FIRST EXAMPLE OF THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES IS "BAD GRANDPA." BAD GRANDPA IS A SKETCH DONE BY JOHNNY KNOXVILLE WHERE HE DRESSES UP AS A GRANDPA AND DOES RUDE THINGS TO RANDOM PEOPLE.
`DUE TO THE SUCCESS OF THE POPULAR PRANK IN THE TV SHOW, BAD GRANDPA GOT MADE INTO A MOVIE, STARRING JOHNNY KNOXVILLE, THE MOVIE CONTAINS LOTS OF DARING PRANKS ON THE THE PUBLIC.
DURING THE FILMING OF THIS FILM YOU DO NOT USE MULTIPLE CAMERA SHOTS. ITS MAINLY WIDE AND LONG SHOTS. THIS IS SO WHEN THEY DO THEIR PRANKS AND STUNTS YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING.

AS YOU CAN SEE BELOW THERE IS A WIDE SOT TO THE LEFT AND A LONG SHOT TO RIGHT, AND YOU CAN SEE TAT YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THE ACTION

IN THIS MOVIE THEY USE A LOT OF SPY CAMERA SO THEY CAN CATCH FOOTAGE OF THEM PRANKING SOMEONE OR DOING SOMETHING ON CAMERA WITHOUT MAKING IT OBVIOUS THAT THEY'RE FILMING. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE SNAPSHOT THEY HAVE ID A CAMERA SO THEY CAN GET A NICE SHOT OF WHATS. IN THIS SNAPSHOT THEY HAVE MADE A BIG MECHANICAL HAND THAT HITS YOU IN THE FACE AS YOU WALK INTO THE ROOM AN THEY HAVE SET IT PERFECTLY SO THAT CAN YOU CAN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY GET IT WITH THE HAND.

JACKASS IS NOT LIKE ALL THE OTHER MOVIES IT DOES NOT HAVE A STORY LINE, IT HAS DIFFERENT SKETCHES, WHICH MEANS TODOROVS THEORY IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT WHICH IS THAT MOVIES HAVE PLOTS E.G.- START, BEGINNING AND END. ANOTHER THEORY THAT IS PROVEN WRONG BY THIS MOVIE IS PROPP'S THEORY, WHICH IS MOVIE CHARACTERS HAVE THEIR OWN PERSONALITY E.G. - THE INBETWEENERS. WILL IS THE "GEEK" AND NEIL IS THE "DUMB ONE" AND SO...! BUT IN THIS MOVIE IT JUST A GROUP OF FRIENDS PRANKING EACH OTHER. ITS NOT A SCRIPTED MOVIE SO NO ONE GETS A SPECIFIC CHARACTER ROLE .

Sound in films

SOUND IN FLIMS

In the sherlock Holmes opening scene, the music starts off very slow and very gloomy, the piano tune is quite dull. then at the 15 second mark you can hear a faint sound of horse footsteps galloping, this is known as ambient sound, which means background sound. Very gradually the horses footsteps start to increase in volume which means that the horses are getting closer. As the footsteps get louder and faster more instruments start to join into the music, making it more louder and and fast paced. The opening scene is a chase scene so the building up of the music enhances the chase scene, making it seem as the chase is intensifying. The music in this is the only non-diegetic sound in this clip, which means it is the only sound that is added to the clip its an actual sound that has come from the video itself.

The Woman in Black (2012)
Mise-en-scene

The woman in black is a young lawyer who is struggling with work after the death of his wife that gets sent to a remote village to settle the estate of a dead woman who owns and manor. the village residents want him to leave as they are trying to figure out a deadly secret, but he refuses and soon he discovers the house of his dead woman is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is dress in all black. the woman dressed in black lost her son so she appears secretly into the village and takes a child life.

Watch the trailer below: -

Settings

The movie woman in black is based in an abandoned house along the sea coast. There are lots of swamps and mist. the setting of the movie is a very typical setting to a horror movie.
the frame above shows the type of eerie, mystical setting of the whole movie. Also the road goes off into the distance, which shows the house is based far away from normal civilisation.

Props

The props in the woman in black are, a coffin, a rocking chair a grave and a candle.

Some props are very good in horror movies, especially child toys such as dolls, the reason for this being because they have quite a eerie look about them.

A recent has just come out called annabelle, annabelle is a doll who contains a possessed soul. As you can see the doll is very creepy looking, it has a lost look in his eye, the smile is also very creepy, personally i think this is one of the most successful and scary props in a horror movie.

Scotland! For or against?

Hi guysss, I'm back!

I'm guessing you lot have heard about the scotland situation, personally, it doesn't bother me, but apparently it bothers a lot of people, and i don't know why.

Scotland want to become independent because they want and they believe it will be better for their country, and if they want to believe that, other countries cannot change their decision.

I believe that people will be voting today, i don't think that should happen because the general public does not know exactly what the pros and cons are, some just like the idea of being their own country.

I recently watched a few videos relating to the current subject, and they population is split 50/50 whether they should become independent.

One person said "Scotland will have a smaller voice on the world stage if independent."

Scotland is not a very big country so many of their views might be overlooked because of the size of their country.

Someone else said " Scotland would have a much stronger economy. Scotland owns huge shares in oil, which we wouldn't have to split if we became independent"

This statement shows that scotland can keep their resources and have to share them with other countries.

We all know that everyone will have different opinions about the situation, but i think its best if we leave it to the people who know exactly what they are doing, and hopefully they make the right decision.
